Since then, scientific evolution has cemented the line between fantasy and reality, but this Auckland artist is still celebrating the blurred boundary between the two realms.

Based in her home studio in Sandringham (she also teaches art classes here), Lucy produced her latest works, ‘Unnatural Histories’. In March, the paintings were in an almost-sold out show at The Artist’s Room in Dunedin. Having shown many group and solo shows since she took up painting 14 years ago, this was her first South Island exhibition in seven years.

The style of her oil paintings nods to Renaissance artists, romantic in their smooth, faultless brushstrokes. They’re also reminiscent, in style and subject, of early wildlife illustrators
