Knots Being Creative Again

THROUGHOUT THE CENTURIES, the ability to tie knots was mainly a survival skill. Somewhere through the ages knots became more than just survival skills, it became an art.

Macramé, the modern art of decorating with knots, is believed to have originated with 13th-century Arab weavers, spreading across the world to Spain and throughout Europe with decorating rugs, home wear and cloths. Sailors used knots to make hammocks amongst other decorative items which they often traded in their travels for other items of need. This is how it was introduced to different areas across the oceans. It was popular in the nineteenth century in the middle to upper classes of Victorian times as it was used to trim dresses, household items and even linen.
