ELECTROPLATING IS the process in which a metallic coating is applied to an object, such as a key, kitchen utensils or plated brass stampings. The way this is done is by placing an item that you would like plated into a solution containing ions (or microscopic particles) of the metal you want applied to the item, then passing an electric current through the solution which causes the ions to adhere to the surface of the item. There are certain things that need to be done to prepare objects before plating, including the removal of all dirt, grease and oils as even the smallest trace of these can prevent the ions from adhering properly to the items you are trying to plate.
Electroplating was invented in 1805 by an Italian chemist named Luigi Brugnatelli, who
