Mountain to climb

When Covid struck in 2020, forcing the cancellation of the Himalayan climbing season, it was a devastating blow for Nepal’s tourism industry, costing millions in lost revenue. Mountaineering and trekking are the only income sources in northeastern Nepal’s Khumbu region, in the shadow of Mt Everest, where the Sir Edmund Hillary-founded Himalayan Trust is working to reduce poverty and “transform lives”.
