A leap of imagination
our feature on the Albin Vega as an affordable classic went down well here in the wilds of the Scottish Highlands where, if you gaze seawards from Ullapool’s Shore Street, you will see three riding to their moorings. Between John Osborne’s , Paul Copestake’s and Andy Reeve’s , these three have probably covered recently completed a round-Scotland voyage via Shetland, mostly singlehanded. A classic little cruiser, with similar aspirations to the Folkboat, but to compare an Albin to a Folkboat aesthetically is surely too much of a leap of imagination. To my eye at least they have nothing in common, in looks, rig, profile, sheerline, rudder configuration, etc. The Vega does not need to be compared to, or claim descent from, the Folkboat. It is unique, rather quirky and quite brilliant (not least the variable pitch prop system fitted as standard).
