Your article on General Patton’s Schooner reminds me of a splendid story about the man, from when he had his previous yacht, . This is recounted in Bill and Phyllis Crowe’s delightful book (Rupert Hart-Davies 1957, Mariners Library No. 35); they actually witnessed the incident, having been tipped off in advance. It seems that Patton was something of a stickler for doing everything with military precision, and could be a severe taskmaster to his crew. However, he pushed them a little too hard once too often, so they got their own back on him.
