A milk churn is a tall, lidded vessel designed for storing and carrying milk, and one wonders why is it called a ‘churn’ when the milk is merely carried, and never actually churned in these containers?
Milk was traditionally carried in pails, lidded buckets with handles, and which could be carried in pairs
