has documented the Korean architectural scene over the past 55 years. To shine a new light on its huge collection of past articles, the architecture historian Hyon-Sob Kim, critic Park Junghyun, architect Suh Jaewon, and architecture and art historian Cho Hyunjung were invited to conduct a discussion about impressive legacy. We hope that the material shared at this meeting will present a productive new genealogy and direction to today’s architectural debates. graduated from Dankook University and Gyeonggi University Graduate School of Architecture, and is currently the principal of aoa architects. He observes the multifaceted nature of our contemporary society with an ambivalent view, adopting the perspective of ‘critical acceptance’ and aiming to embody the ‘contemporary characteristics’ of Korean society through binary oppositions such as incongruity and harmony, rationality and irrationality, satire and jokes. In 2017, he won the Korean Young Architect Award and was selected as the Noteworthy Architect of the Year. He is currently working as an adjunct professor at Hanyang University and as a Seoul Public Architect. ‘However, all these Korean beauties perhaps are found their consummation in the thatched-roof of the traditional Korean house. And even though it requires maintenance every year, the thatched-roof is, I suppose, the most human and natural of architectural features.
