SAIGO WRX STI — THE LAST OF A GENERATION

The humble EJ-series engine platform has spanned three decades, with production initially beginning in 1988 under the bonnet of the modest yet formidable Subaru Legacy. Fast forward to 2021 and Subaru has announced the final-ever EJ-series engine. Globally, the final EJ-series engine will be released in a Subaru Saigo WRX STI special edition, with only 20 in total being produced for the New Zealand market. Released with an EJ25 engine —instead of the JDM two-litre — it’ll be the last EJ-powered Subaru to be released to market. Mind you, more than 30 years of production for an engine series is pretty astounding.
