Introduction:

The purpose of this article is to provide New Zealand hot rodders with some information on some housekeeping which has taken place recently, about engine hoods and side-panels as used (or removed) from traditional-style hot rods. Hopefully, this article will explain what’s happened, why it’s happened, and why there’s no need for concern. The bottom line – and good news - is that we can run our cars without engine hoods and side-panels into the future, completely legally and with a minimum of inconvenience.

Change to the Car Construction Manual Engine & Drive-train Chapter:

There’s been a tidy up of some loose ends within the recently amended NZ Car Construction Manual Chapter 9 (Engine & Drive-train) relating to engine hoods and side panels.

Paragraph 9.6.3 of Chapter 9 says, “Unless authorised by an LVV Authority Card specified under Annex 5 of the Low Volume Vehicle Code,
