Staring at the doctor, I was too numb with shock to cry. ‘It’s a tumour, on your son’s spine,’ he said, pointing to a mass on a grainy image. ‘It’s called a spinal cord neurocytoma.’
‘Is it malignant?’ I managed to ask.
‘We don’t think so. But it’s in a place where we can’t operate. Your son will need chemotherapy to stop its growth.’
