Magnificent machine
The German club VFV holds its weekend Grand Prix event at Schotten in August, with a good field of competitors and run on an improvised circuit of about a mile. Being the premier event, it attracts about 14,000 spectators who generate a lively and friendly atmosphere. It is well organised, and part of the charm for English riders is being made to feel that they are welcome guests, both by the organisers and the German riders. The paddock is a lively and gregarious space, particularly in the evening.
One feature of the event was a display and parade organised by Willie Marewski, which gave the opportunity to see some very special bikes being ridden.
I recall seeing works DKWs (watercooled models with their exquisitely sculpted and painted fuel tanks), three works DOHC Horex twins and all different, a Kompressor NSU, Rennsport BMWs, Rennmax NSUs, and, on this occasion, a beautiful 250cc single cylinder Benelli,
