A Friend in Need
ANNAH frowned as she approached the flat door after work. Jade was standing there with her little black spaniel, its tail whipping madly. She was holding a tissue. Her eyes were red, tearful.
“Am I glad to see you,” her best friend blurted. “I’ve dropped an almighty clanger. I’ve somehow managed to . . .”
“Whoa, steady on,” Hannah put an arm around the slim blonde’s shoulders while she unlocked the door. “You can tell me about it when we’re inside.”
Once in the hallway Hannah shrugged out of the beige jacket that she wore at the café on warm spring days. It had to be serious. Jade wasn’t the sort to get upset that easily.
“It’s just that I’ve sent a horrible email to Ryan by mistake. I pressed send without thinking.”
