ICONIC TOYS

Hornby trains UK, 1920

Inventor Frank Hornby patented his model construction toy ‘Mechanics Made Easy’ before establishing his Meccano company in 1907. He produced the first Hornby trains in 1920 and released the clockwork 0 gauge locomotive, which was an instant hit. This was followed by the Hornby Dublo range in 1938, available in both clockwork and electric sets. While the company has undergone various changes over the decades, Hornby has remained one of the world’s most prolific and iconic manufacturers of model railways.
