KIDEKO

Ryan Hurley, aka Kideko, is a Brighton-based DJ and dance producer whose collaborations and approach have already bought him much success, including four Radio 1 Dance Chart No 1s and 60 million streams. It has all resulted in a collaboration with Armand Van Helden, The Fire, which we’ll be discussing here, and Ryan has achieved all of this with a bit of hard graft, some simple self promotion and… a PlayStation.

“I was bought up around music,” Ryan recalls, when asked about his musical upbringing. “I remember our house being a bit of a party house when I was growing up. My mum would have people over and my uncles would set up the decks and blare out tunes; mostly garage. My dad has always loved listening to music too; I remember being in the back of his car whizzing around listening to The Prodigy and Cypress Hill on full blast.

“As I grew up I started discovering different genres and took an interest in production. I started uploading tunes to YouTube and trying to get onto some of the promo channels. I ended up getting some uploads which led to releasing music on labels and getting some shows. Some of the tracks started gaining traction and ended up being picked up by major labels which was surreal. I love the idea that to me these tracks were club tools for DJs to play but now they’ve ended up being on major labels with full campaigns!”
