THE humble potato, the butt of countless jokes and erroneously blamed for weight gain, is to come into its own.
The servile tuber – aloo in Hindi or uralaikilangu in Tamil – is to be honoured next month in an event that could eclipse President Cyril Ramaphosa’s dreary State of the Nation Address (Sona).
An inaugural State of the Potato Industry Address (Sopia) is being organised for May 5 by Potatoes SA, the mouthpiece of the potato industry.
