Looking down at the sea of eager faces, I clapped my hands together. ‘Time for some maths,’ I said, turning to write on the board behind me. It was February 2018 and I’d been teaching secondary school children with special needs for years and loved how rewarding it could be. Only, I was always happy to head back to the peaceful home I shared with my partner Daniel, then 47, afterwards. Because, as much as I Ioved the kids I taught, the idea of having a child of my own didn’t appeal and now, aged 33, I’d never been more certain that I didn’t want to be a mum.
