WRECK TO RACE WINNER
One of the last race meetings to see the checkered flag before COVID-19 was the Mountain Man Motocross in Echo Valley, Toowoomba. The web will tell you that reigning, and last, MX Nationals champ Todd Waters took home the chocolates (but didn’t eat any) in the premier class from a bunch of stars like Aaron Tanti and Jay Wilson.
While Waters’ achievement was impressive, we were following a rider by the name of Billy and his crew, led by a kid called Kobe.
The team we’re talking about was FTI - Fast Rrack International RACING and it featured three stars: team manager Kobe Reinke and Scottish-born motocross veteran Billy MacKenzie, with Warren Platz, from Independent Motorcycle Wreckers in Toowoomba, on the spanners. This was a non-factory-supported, non-daddy-funded outfit and the realisation of Kobe’s dream to run a team with a superstar rider who could bang ’bars with the best in the business. His dream became a reality thanks to a strong passion for our sport and incredible determination to make it happen from all those involved. This is their story:
