Speedway has changed little since it was dropped on an unsuspecting public in 1928 as a fully-fledged sporting spectacle. It’s still four laps by four riders mounted on minimal machines and racing on an oval circuit around 400 yards long. “I get a bit het-up,” grins Eric ‘Booey’ Boocock, “when these kids today mock what we did. Each generation is going as fast as they can on what they have available.
