Stunning New Image Of Black Hole Reveals Surrounding Magnetic Fields
The Event Horizon Telescope project, which produced the world's first image of a black hole in 2019 in the M87 galaxy, unveiled a new view of its magnetic fields as captured by polarized light.
Two years after producing the first-ever image of a black hole, an international team of researchers has released an updated view of the magnetic fields surrounding it — a development they say brings them one step closer to understanding the M87 galaxy's ability to "launch energetic jets from its core."
The Event Horizon Telescope said in a that more than 300 researchers collaborated on the project and their findings.
