FORD’S forgotten show cars Luxurious Ford show cars from 1965-1969

Like many automobile manufacturers, Ford Motor Co. exhibited show cars based on production models at the annual auto shows during the 1960s. Just like the more exotic concept cars, these production-based show cars featured ideas that might be put into production in the future, as well as ideas that really had no chance of going beyond the auto show circuit. The latter sort of features simply highlighted the imagination of the manufacturers’ designers and helped create a stir among the public.

The featured luxury-class Ford show vehicles were built from 1965-’69 production models. Since little press has been given to these cars since they were built, you will likely find one, or even a few, that you never knew ever existed. The current whereabouts of each of them is not known, so they still remain to be discovered — if they weren’t destroyed.

1965 LTD ‘Executive’

The 1965 LTD “Executive” was a custom-built show car constructed by Gene Winfield under authorization of Ford Motor Co. It was shown at multiple venues across the country as part of the “Caravan of Stars,” an auto show produced by model car manufacturer AMT, customizer George Barris and Ford Motor Co.
