The second Nuffield

Renowned restorer David Aylward has, as always, plenty of projects to keep him occupied and amongst the various ongoing restorations for customers is the oldest known Nuffield tractor in the world: an M4 with the serial number NT 502. I paid him a visit last year, when Covid-19 restrictions allowed.

“I would not be taking on this tractor if I hadn’t had 50-plus years of experience working on these tractors, as this is the worst one I have ever come across!” he told me. “If it wasn’t for the fact that this tractor is the oldest known of the breed, I am sure it would have been scrapped long ago.”
