Catching up with Overton Showjumping

Tell us about your introduction to horses?

Sam’s introduction to riding was all part of a cunning plan. His sister Kate Wilson (of Davrol Warmbloods) was bargaining with her parents to buy a second horse but she didn’t want to part with her first horse. So, she talked Sam into saying he would ride - but really, he wouldn’t have to as Kate would do all the work. In a twist of fate, David (Sam’s father) ‘strongly encouraged’ Sam to learn to ride… Only a short time later, he competed in his first showjumping event at Dalby Show and placed 4th in the Junior class!

Sam went on to have a very successful junior and young rider career, winning many State Titles and also strong results in open company against some of the country’s best riders. Sam was coached by David Dobson from a young age,
