Recently, Berliners celebrated an important birthday: their controversial Mietendeckel – or rent cap – turned one in late February.
Passed by Berlin’s left-leaning city authorities a year ago to slow real-estate speculation, the Mietendeckel law freezes non-commercial city rents for the next five years at the level they were in June 2019. Politicians say it’s about forcing the market
