David Koma was handed his first tennis racket at the age of four and trained to become a professional player until the age of 12. “I have a passion for the sport that is quite a funny story,” he tells us from his east London studio, when we speak on Zoom. “My parents really wanted me to be a tennis player, but then I decided to become a fashion designer,” he adds cheerfully.

David, who has run his own label for 11 years, paid homage to his early allegiance to the game (his brother is a professional player and has his own academy in Saint Petersburg and his father plays at least four times a week), in his SS21 fashion show.

Filmed at a private house in the English countryside, without an audience due to Covid restrictions, models walked the grass catwalk wearing asymmetric Aran knits over cycling ‘net’ shorts, crystal-encrusted polo dresses slashed to the thigh, stretch jersey tulle bodysuits and cute embroidered knitted separates.
