MARCO RIBEIRO

Marco Ribeiro is not afraid to follow his instincts. He wasn’t afraid at 14 years old, when, after his parents divorced, he moved from his birthplace of Brazil to Argentina to spend time with his mum. “It was supposed to be just a holiday,” he explains from his sunny Parisian apartment, “but I wanted to experiment and do something new, to learn a new language.” To this day, Ribeiro considers Argentina his second home. “Even today, I speak more Spanish than Portuguese, even when I talk to my mum - even though she’s Brazilian.”

And Ribeiro wasn’t afraid when, a few years later, he decided he needed to be in Paris to start his fashion label. “There were so many coincidences, so many things were calling me to France,” the 34-year-old designer explains. “I went to dinner with friends and there was a French person there, I went somewhere else and they had a painting of the Eiffel Tower.”

Ribeiro is laughing as he recounts this memory, but he does take it seriously. “It was building myself from scratch, I knew I wanted to manifest it.” An exuberant joy
