Snipping Tool

Since 2018, Microsoft has been threatening to replace Snipping Tool – Windows’ handy built-in feature for taking and editing screenshots that’s been part of the operating system since Windows Vista – with a more ‘modern’ alternative. It’s still there, but only just.

Launch the tool (search for it in the Start menu), and you’ll see a warning that ‘Snipping Tool is moving…’. The warning doesn’t include a deadline date, but preview versions of the next Windows Feature update (due in Spring) reveal Snipping Tool is due to be downgraded to an optional feature. This means you’ll have to enable it yourself (click start, type manage optional features, click ‘Add a feature’, then tick the relevant box) and suggests
