The greatest generation?

In January’s Letters, Marek Pruszewicz refers to Britain as having an “obsession” with the Second World War, and implies that the British have a deep national conviction that Britain has always been a “good” country. I think he is entirely wrong in this, and that he confuses obsession with a deep admiration and a profound gratitude for the achievements of that generation, which fought and lived through the most devastating war in history, allowing us now to live in this country as free people.
