LIFT LEEKS
Some winter crops need to be lifted to make room for new plantings. Dig any leeks left in the ground and heel them back in as a bunch at the edge of a bed. They need to be used fairly soon but this keeps them fresh and slows bolting.
PLANT EARLY POTATOES
First early and salad potatoes can go into the ground around the middle of the month. In colder areas, planting will be delayed until the ground is warm enough for growth. These first potatoes grow fast to make some early delicious roots.
PREPARE BEDS
Dig over any empty beds when the soil is dry enough that it doesn’t clump and compact. Prepare beds to suit
