Clutching my rucksack, I jumped into the back of the car.
‘Get your seatbelt on, kiddo,’ my mum, then 26, smiled as her boyfriend Paul pulled out of the drive.
It was the summer of 1994 and I was 8 years old.
We were off on holiday to a caravan park in Carmarthenshire, Wales, with Mum and Paul’s friend John Powell, 20.
I couldn’t wait – two nights away, having fun.
Later, after we arrived, Mum and Paul decided to head out for a drink at the nearby pub.
‘Don’t worry, I’ll make sure he behaves himself,’
