ROYAL TOUR STARTS ON THE RIGHT TRACK
With the sounds of Shakin’ Stevens’s festive favourite
Merry Christmas Everyone ringing in their ears, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge embarked on a morale-boosting three-day tour of England, Scotland and Wales last week to bring festive cheer to the people who have kept the country running this year.
Prince William and Kate set off on board the Royal Train to celebrate community spirit and pass on the nation’s thanks as they met front-line workers, volunteers, care home staff, teachers, schoolchildren and students up and down the land.
And there was plenty of festive entertainment at every stop to highlight the UK’s arts, heritage and live-performance sectors, which have been especially hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
The nationwide tour got off to a rousing start as the royal couple watched 1980s pop star Shaky perform his classic Christmas chart-topper for transport workers at London’s Euston Station.
The Duchess, wrapped up warmly in an Alexander McQueen coat and Canadian tartan maple leaf scarf by York Scarves, swayed along to the Yuletide hit as she and the Duke watched from a balcony above the concourse, waving to people below.
William and Kate met Transport for London employees and rail staff, thanking them for keeping trains running during the health crisis.
