Back in the March 2014 issue of CM, I covered the first two years of the story of our Fiat Seicento known as ‘Enzo’. To summarise: I had bought the car for my daughter to learn to drive; he had cost £350 on eBay and broken down on the trip home – we expected him to last a year at most and had been really surprised and pleased when he passed his first MOT with us as by this time we didn’t want to part with him.

Well, we didn’t! Each year we put him forward for his MOT, and each year he passed. In part, this was down to wire brushing the underside of the car and undersealing and Waxoyling it on purchase and retouching the rust-proofing annually. It helped that the shell was basically remarkably sound, with areas like the rear inner arches – which are a weak point on the Seicento – in solid condition when purchased and still solid
