Ketamine has been flying under the radar as a treatment for depression in this country. But convinced by mounting research evidence that the drug works, Tauranga psychiatrist Caleb Armstrong has been offering it to his treatment-resistant patients since 2017.
Armstrong did due diligence and visited the Brisbane clinic of psychiatrist Angelo De Gioannis, a leading proponent of ketamine, who has treated thousands of clients. Then he started prescribing it in its two available forms – nasal spray Spravato and oral ketamine lozenges.
