Review: Dreadbox Typhon

Typhon is a monophonic desktop synthesizer whose clear hardware layout is designed to give beginners a smooth start into analog working. For this purpose, Typhon offers an analog sound generator with two oscillators and a lowpass filter as well as 12 DSP effects. But Typhon can also enrich the setup of professionals thanks to its complex modulation options and a clever step sequencer including parameter automation. And in contrast to other inexpensive analog synthesizers, everything in Typhon can be saved.

Compact but robust

Typho is very compact and hardly larger than the Korg Volcas, but on a higher level in terms of haptics and robustness. The sturdy metal case ensures that despite its space-saving dimensions of 23 x 13 x 6 cm, Typhon stands firmly on the desktop with a weight of one full kilogram and can easily withstand rough touring.
