Star terns

It’s been a record-breaking year for these roseate terns, with 130 breeding pairs recorded on Coquet Island, Northumberland. The rare birds faced extinction in the 19th century, as their ere used for ladies’ hats. comeback is largely thanks to the RSPB installing nest boxes and restoring lost habitats. They’re likely to be in South America now but should return in May.
