PATIENT: “Hi, I am Mrs Patel, mum to Meena, my six month old infant. Last evening, I heard that there is something called emotional expressions in infants, which need to be addressed right from the beginning! I am really confused. I feed, bathe, change, clean, and play with Meena as much as I can. Now, tell me what has emotions got to do with it? My daughter is very happy: sleeping, eating and playing. I admit she can be a handful sometimes. But where are the emotions, I say?”
PSYCHOLOGIST: “Mrs Patel, understanding your infant’s behaviour helps us to know about her feelings (read emotions) and how to address them as they are experienced.”
