Sighing heavily, I pulled out the letter I’d written to myself and packed away with the Christmas decorations the year before. It was my annual ritual. Write my New Year’s resolutions as the festive decorations came down, and retrieve them the following December when the tree went up. It detailed how I’d been feeling, and my aims for the year to come. But I already knew I’d failed, yet again, just like I had for the last six years. See, every Christmas, I’d had the same goal – lose 6st – and never managed it. I was still, at 5ft 6in, over 19st and a size 26.
