Every time I slip on a pair of size 10 jeans and catch my reflection, I give myself a whoop. I just wish I could travel back to 2005 and tell the glum, overweight woman I used to be that she wasn’t a hopeless case. After my first marriage broke down in my late 20s, I turned to high-calorie comfort food, eating and drinking whatever I felt like, while convincing myself it didn’t matter what I looked like. ‘It’s not like you have anyone to impress,’ I thought. Then, in July 2002, I went to a friend’s wedding and I met Andrew. He didn’t care that I could barely squeeze into a size 16, he thought I was pretty. Neither of us could cook, so we’d tuck into frozen meals, which came in huge portions, each evening, with a glass of wine. At our summer 2005 wedding, I wore a bright-red dress, and to guests, I exuded confidence – yet, in reality, I was embarrassed that I’d ballooned to a size 18 and had only picked it because I thought the
