High in fibre

A pretty unusual Ford Pop graced the cover of our February 2000 issue. First off it was green, very green. It was also a coupe. Oh, and it was a roadster, too. The man behind the car that had been crowned Participants’ Choice at the previous year’s Supernats was Mark Simkiss.

Mark had actually couped the car in the ’80s, but then put it into storage while he had a five-year stint working in Florida.

Whilst out there, he formulated a plan to ditch the Pop’s roof, and to incorporate sections of ’37 Ford front wings and headlight rims – a hint of what was to come in later years.

Once home, Mark scratch built the tube
