AWARD-winning author and former editor of True Love magazine Dorah Sitole (67) is celebrating her four decades in the food industry with a new cookbook, Dorah Sitole: 40 Years of Iconic Food. Each chapter focuses on a stage of Dorah’s life, with recipes to match. Here she takes us on a food journey of her childhood years in Soweto.

375ml (1½c) buttermilk
2 large eggs
180g cake wheat flour
120g dry breadcrumbs
10ml (2t) spice for chicken
5ml (1t) smoked paprika
salt and freshly ground black pepper
2kg chicken pieces (bone-in)
750ml (3c) sunflower oil
MAYO SAUCE
250ml (1c) mayonnaise5ml (1t) Dijon mustard30ml (2T) finely chopped gherkins15ml (1T) tomato saucesalt and freshly ground3ml (generous ½t) smoked paprika5ml (1t) garlic paste
