Preparation and cutting
Draw a rectangle 4in x 8in on the matt side of your freezer paper. Measure and mark the centre of each side of the rectangle. Draw lines connecting the centre points to result in a large diamond in the centre of the rectangle. Now add seam lines by drawing another diamond ¼in outside the first one. See Diagram 1. Cut the diamond template out accurately on the outer lines.
From the scraps of assorted blue print fabrics, cut:
• 30 squares, 4½in (D)• 60 squares, 4⅞in. Cut each square once on the diagonal to yield 120 half-square triangles (F) (large Square in a Square blocks)• 42 squares, 2½in (B) (small Square in a Square blocks)• 84 squares, 3¼in. Cut each square once on the diagonal to yield 168 half-square triangles (small Square in a Square blocks)• 71 rectangles, 4¼in x 8¼in (Diamond blocks). Iron the freezer paper diamond template to the wrong side of a rectangle. One edge of the template should align with the long edge of the fabric. See Diagram 2. Position your ruler next to the other three edges of the paper and cut the fabric. Be careful not to cut the paper. Peel the paper gently off the fabric and re-use it until it loses its stickiness. Make more templates as needed and continue until you have cut a diamond shape from all 71 rectangles.
