EXHAUST NOISE

Interesting letter from Steve Rose with regards to exhaust noise.

I have a local lad who goes to work at around 7.30am on a KTM single. He accelerates uphill past my house and while my neighbours moan a bit, it sounds good to me.

I am in no position to complain, though. Back in the mid 1960s I was the proud owner of an AJS 350 model 16MS at the tender age of 17.

The ‘silencer’ was of the straight through type, and not quiet, and I used to ride it ‘with spirit’ – read anti-socially.
