BLACK UNITY CAN’T PROTECT THE CORRUPT
The call attributed to a city mayor for black people to unite against the arrests made by the Hawks of those allegedly involved in corruption and malfeasance is an interesting one. He reasons that white people involved in graft are hardly arrested and, in his world, black people are being targeted.
In effect, the mayor is accusing the state machinery, in particular law enforcement agencies, of discriminating against black people. He is not only a mayor, but the regional chairperson of the majority party that runs our government.
If the allegations he makes are proven to be true, we must accept that we are back to the apartheid days under an ANC government, and that our constitutional imperatives of equality and respect for human dignity have no meaning, despite our obligation to ensure that people’s human rights must be
