The Beatles wrote the soundtrack to the decade from their first single, Love Me Do, in 1962. Their final bow was a concert on the roof of their Apple Corps HQ at 3 Savile Row, Mayfair, on 30 January 1969.

Formed in Liverpool in 1960, the Beatles were initially a five-piece band. They went through a rigorous apprenticeship in all-night clubs in Hamburg, and emerged with a distinctive mix of guitar and vocal harmonies with three core members: George Harrison, John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
