While we were preparing our turntable round-up for this issue, the news came through of vinyl’s latest triumph — in the first half of 2020, vinyl sales in the US made more money than CD sales. Nor was it a small lead; over the previous year CD sales had collapsed by 47.6%, while vinyl sales rose modestly. (Unsurprisingly the biggest rises overall were in paid streaming subscriptions.)
So it seems the 21st-century music system now requires two music sources — some way to stream, and a turntable for playing vinyl. And you know what? We couldn’t be happier with that solution.
