IRAN #METOO MOMENT

Iranian women are calling out perpetrators of sexual violence online, in what has been dubbed Iran’s #MeToo movement.

In August, a woman tweeted the name of a Tehrani bookshop owner, Keyvan Emamverdi, followed by the hashtag #tajavoz, the Farsi word for rape.

More than 20 women then came forward, alleging that they had also been drugged and raped by Emamverdi. The police opened an investigation and #tajavoz began
