Making headlines in Morecambe

The 1983 rally season opened with Morecambe, and we tried a new tactic that we’d seen others use: a back-up van… help if (when) any of the scooters break down and somewhere to sleep at night. We all chipped in to hire a van but when we arrived to pick the van up on Friday afternoon, the hire company, knowing who was hiring it, gave us the most clapped-out van they had; it wasn’t even taxed nor did it have working lights. We’d hired it in case any of the scooters didn’t make it so we could chuck them in the back.
