UNIONS DEMAND SAA’S R10 billion

The National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) and the SA Cabin Crew Association (Sacca) have called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to intercede in the looming liquidation of SAA and SA Express, which require a R10.5 billion bailout by next week.

In a joint statement released yesterday, Numsa general secretary Irvin Jim and Sacca president Zazi Nsibanyoni-Mugambi said they were done talking and demanded action.

“We’re also calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene. He must call Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and Finance Minister Tito Mboweni at Treasury to order. It’s unfair that workers are being taken from pillar to post and no one’s taking responsibility for this latest failure.
