BROKEN
All your favourite biscuits just a little bit broken Snuggled together in a big family sized box.’
In Woolworths you could Buy them by the quarter pound. The assistant would scoop And shovel them into a brown Paper bag, An avalanche of chance, A gamble of confectionery.
As a child I would try To match them up, Make them whole again, Broken circles, Split wafers, Custard creams With the corners missing.
There were always a few That never found their match, Oddments too small Left to crumble Like lumpy sand At the bottom of the barrel.
Is it possible to be Just a little bit broken? Can fragments snuggle together In a mismatch of shape and size?
