MOT EXEMPTION FOR HISTORIC LORRIES

Hope you and all your readers are well. Prior to the Covid 19 Pandemic there was much debate and consultation related to the Exemption from MoT for LGVs over 40 years old with Historic status and not used for hire or reward.

As I am sure we are all aware, the MoT Centres and DVSA Examiners have been impacted dramatically by the postponement of HGV Testing.

The Government has also given an exemption period of three months for LGV testing which basically was employed on the introduction of lockdown.

I can only imagine that there are thousands of vehicles and trailers out there on the road being operated within everyday haulage operations at fully laden weights on a daily basis now out of test being used on the exemption rules.

I have to ask is this not the time for the government to consider the MoT Exemption for HGVs in the Historic taxation class which are not used commercially. This should surely give the DVSA an opportunity to concentrate on the HGVs which are surely got to be priority within the testing lanes to ensure road safety.

Test appointments were on overload prior to the virus and I can only imagine that once the examiners return
